Disney Unveils Piston Peak National Park

Big changes are coming to Magic Kingdom, and Disney is thinking big and bold with its latest expansion: Piston Peak National Park! Disney has given us a few more details and some new concept art about the upcoming cars-themed area. This new land will add a thrilling off-road adventure, breathtaking scenery, and continue the immersive storytelling of Frontierland, marking one of the most ambitious transformations in the park’s history.

Frontierland has always celebrated the wild, untamed beauty of America, from the thunderous bluffs of Big Thunder Mountain Railroad to the nostalgic charm of Tom Sawyer Island. Now, Disney Imagineers are taking that legacy to new heights with a national park experience inspired by the Rocky Mountains, designed with the iconic “Parkitecture” style seen in real-life park lodges across the country.

Of course, this means that Rivers of America, Tom Sawyer Island, and the Liberty Square Riverboat will close starting July 7 to make way for this expansion. And for longtime fans, it’s understandable—these areas hold special memories of exploration and adventure. Just look at comments being made online by Disney fans. Losing those classic attractions has really fired up the fanbase.

But here’s the good news: Disneyland will still have its Rivers of America and Tom Sawyer Island, ensuring that those nostalgic experiences will live on. If you miss the rafts, winding caves, and charming riverboat cruises, Disneyland has you covered! It's similar to how Disneyland lost the People Mover. The attraction still exists at Magic Kingdom. This is just another step in growing the uniqueness between these two parks.

This isn’t the only massive change on the horizon. Disney Imagineers are also working on a Disney Villains land beyond Big Thunder Mountain Railroad—bringing two major attractions, themed restaurants, and eerie shopping experiences to the park.

With Piston Peak National Park expanding Frontierland and Villains Land lurking just beyond, Magic Kingdom’s transformation is unlike anything we’ve seen before—and I'm here for it!

Concept art of Piston Peak National Park, a new expansion for Magic Kingdom’s Frontierland. The image showcases a stylized map with diverse landscapes, including towering forests, rugged rocky mountains, and striking red rock formations. A flowing waterfall cascades down the center, adding to the natural grandeur. Various structures, resembling ranger stations and park lodges, are scattered throughout, blending seamlessly into the environment. A compass is positioned in the top left corner, reinforcing the adventurous theme. At the bottom right corner, a green truck character from Cars—wearing glasses and smiling—greets viewers beside a welcoming banner that reads “Welcome to Piston Peak.” The overall design evokes the feeling of a classic national park with a Pixar twist.
